How do you share 17 subs between 22 people?

Please leave a comment behind at your class blog. What did these people do right and what would you change.

In your comment please talk about

  • fractions show division
  • the size of the whole matters
  • friendly and unfriendly fractions
Thanks

Well i looked at all of the work and i noticed that the kids did not have an equal amount subs, because 17/22 is an unequal fraction. And most of them divided it into 4 equal pieces and there was 2 subs left so the kids did have equal amounts of subs but there was left overs.

i thought everyone did the same thing. mostly everyone put 3/4. i still dont get how they got 4...

the kids did not get an equal amount of subs.most of the work, they use 4 and get a left over subs.17/22 is a ugly fraction. some of the works i don't get what are they doing.

i don't really get how to do it. mostly everyone put 3/4 , But wouldn't there still be extras ? does that mean its not equal ?

Fractions shows division just like
3/4 = 0.75

The size of a whole matters because I think everyone obviously wants to get a bigger piece of a sub so it really matters. The bigger the denominator is the smaller the piece you would get.

The fraction that Mr.H has given us is unfriendly fraction (17/22) because you can't really divide the numerator is a half compare if you uses a friendly fraction like 4/8 you can divide them in a half and figure out how many pieces they would get.

I am still a little bit confused. Mostly everyone used the same thing, like 3/4. The part I'm most confused about is why they used the number 4.

mostly everyone use 4 and get leftover subs but i don't understand that they use 4.17/22 is an ugly fraction coz' ugly fractions are continouos decimal that don't have equivalents.

well, today i learned that if the decimal is under 1 you have to multiply it by 100. i looked at all of the work and i thought that they did the same thing. most of them put 3/4. and i still wonder were they get 4...??? =/

well i noticed that some of the work they did are not the same one thing is that 17/22 is an unfriendly fraction...when you divide the numerator to the denominator of an unfriendly fractions, you will get are nonstop or repeating decimals (e.g. 17/22 = 17 divided by 22 = 0.772...). for me, each person got 0.7727272... or 77.27 % of a sub which is true because subs divided by people but its hard to draw it because its repeating number. Some of the works i don't get what are they doing.

a lot of people said that there were left overs, its probly because the fraction 17/22 is an unfriendly fraction. it is an unfriendly fraction anyway because 17 doesn't go into 22 perfectly. so no matter what you do, there will always be a left over in that fraction.

Fraction shows division which is true. EX. 6/8 = 0.75

The size of the whole matters, because if the denominator is big then the pieces are small.

Friendly and unfriendly fractions.
I think 17/22 is an unfriendly number because I'm still confused about the answer. Friendly numbers are like 1/2.

And I dont get it, do they have equal pieces or not? I think there is suppose to be left overs. Btw. good job to those people who's work is show.
