Ivanne's First Growing Post

What set of fractions is larger, 1/2+1/6 or 1/4+7/12?

Explanation:
1/2 + 1/6
1/2 of 60 minutes is 30 minutes...
1/6 of 60 minutes is 10 minutes...
So, 30+10 = 40 minutes...

1/4 + 7/12
1/4 of 60 minutes is 15 minutes...
7/12 of 60 minutes is 35 minutes because 60/12 = 5...5x7 = 35...
So, 15+35 = 50 minutes...
1/4 + 7/12 is larger!!!

6.) You can learn many things about fractions in this site...try it!
Fraction Game

7.) Alexandra and I divided 60 by 12, 6, and 3 to know how many stations are there.
60/12 = 5 ... So there are 5 km markers for every 12th of the way in 60 kms.
60/ 6 = 10 ... So there are 10 km markers for every 6th of the way in 60 kms.
60/3 = 20 ... So there are 20 km markers in every 3rd of the way in 60 kms.
60 is divisible by 12, 6, and 3...

8.) One way to get a quarter of 16, 1/4 x 16...
Another way...ge the 3/4 of 16...the half of 16 is 8...the quarter of 16 is 4...So, 8+4 is 12...12 is the 3/4 of 16...

9.) 3/6 + 2/10 and 2/3 + 1/6...which is larger?

3/6 of 60 minutes is 30 minutes...2/10 of 60 minutes is 12 minutes...So, 30+12=42...

2/3 of 60 minutes is 40 minutes...1/6 of 60 minutes is 10 minutes...So, 40+10=50...

2/3 + 1/6 is larger...
