Jann's First Growing Post

Hey this is Jann, this is my first growing post for the year. This time no more asking for stupid stuff like insulting comments. and wow i got 2 marks for doing the title and the lable

1.Which set of fractions is larger 1/2 + 1/6 or 1/4 + 7/12.

1/2 + 1/6 = 40 minutes < 1/4 + 7/12 = 50 minutes

1/6 + 1/2 = 40/60

-If you half 60 you get 30
-then since 6 goes into 60 10 times
-60 divided by 6 is 10
-30 + 10 = 40
1/4 + 7/12 = 50/60

-If you half 60 you get 30
-then, if you half 30 again you get 15
-since in a clock it is already cut in 12 equal pieces
-7 in the clock means 35 so 7/12 is 35
-35 + 15 = 50

For me and kevinT's bikeathon we figured out how much kilometers we stop for each stations. then we made our course and for every station we coloured each station different colors so we know when we will stop.

For the resting point we just cut the clock into 4 pieces and cut it again to make a 1/8 of 60 which is 7.5 then for the Food Wagon it is just over 2nd of the resting poits because 7.5 is is half of 15 which is a quarter of 60.

For the water wagons, we just labeled each number that is a multiple of 6 (6, 12, 24, 60, ect.)

for the kilometer meters, it said you have to get 1/12, 1/6, and 1/3. instead of getting all 3 you just have to get 1/12 which is 5 because 1/6 is 10 and 1/3 is 20. so you just label all multiples of 5.

Oh sorry i didnt see the 2nd part of the growing post assignment. So here it is.

This Game is very Challenging Because you have to know your equivalent fractions. to play this game you have to click a fraction then you have to click another fraction that is equivalent to the first one. So its like a game of memorry. In the first stage it starts with four fractions so its very easy.

For the 2nd question i dont have to rewrite it because i already talked about my bikerace.

For the 3rd question, i picked 16 to talk about. to get 3/4 of 16, first you have to get 1/4 of 16 then times it by 3. Since 16 is a multiple of 4 it is very easy to get 1/4. since 4 x 4 = 16 that means 1/4 of 16 is 4. then 4 x 3 = 12. So 3/4 of 16 is 12.

The secon way of getting 3/4 of 16 is just simply halfing it and halfing it again. if you half 16 you get 8, then if you half 8 you get 4. then 4 x 3 = 12.

Final Tasks:

The question i made up is a bikerace question:

If there was a 30 km bike course and every 1/3 there is a resting point, and right at the middle of the bike course there is a food station. How do you know when to rest and when to go to the food station?
To know the 1/3 of 30. you have to divide 30/3. dividing 30 into 3 is a very easy task because 3 x 10 = 30 so if you reverse that you get 30 divided by 10 = 3. Another way of getting that is using the clock method but not 30 mins. you just half it into 30.

for the 2nd part of the problem, it says " right in the middle of the bike course" so that must mean 1/2 of the course. That is easy because you just have to start from 60 then you half it to get 30 then you half it again to get 15. CHOP SUEY!

I hope you liked my growing post!
