Today in class we learned different strategies to solve addition fractions. The three startegies were using clocks, money, and double number line ( also called Common Denominators).

We first startegy we did was clocks. We found out that the magic number for clocks was 60 minutes. After that, we figured out the numbers that would divide evenly into 60. They were 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 10 , 12, 15, 20, 30, and 60. We did an exmaple question and this is how I solved it.



1/3 is 20 mintues on a clock. 1/12 is 5 minutes on a clock, but since it's 5/12 we just have to multiply 5 minutes, 5 times. This will get us 25 minutes. Add it together and get 45 minutes over 60 minutes. You could reduce it to 9/12. Reduce it one more time and get the final answer, 3/4

The second startegy we did was money. We found out the magic number for money and it was 100. After that , we figured out that 2, 4, 5, 10, 20, 25, 50 and 100 were the numbers that divide into 100 evenly. We did an example qeustion and this is how I
solved it.



The first number 3/10 was easy to solve , because the denominator, 10, meant that it was in dimes. SO all we had to do was multiply 3 by 10 and it equaled 30 cents over 100. The second number was easy to solve, because the denominator, 20, meant that it was in nickels. So all we had to do was multiply 9 by 5 and it equaled 45 cents over 100. Add that together and get 75 cents over 100. You might see it kind of looks like three quarters. So the final answer is 3/4.

The last strategy we did was double number lines. We found out that any number can go into it. We did an example question and this is how i did it.



Since 5/8 equals 55/88, by just multiplying 5 and 8 with 11.
3/11 equals 24/88, by just multiplying 3 and 11 by 8.
the number line was up to 88 since that was the denominator. we first did 3/11 (24/88) and added 5/8 ( 55/88) which equalled to 79/88.

This ends todays math class! Remember to finish your math homework.

The Ratio table helped me figure out ingredients and money. Multipication and Division are the master planners behind this plot.

I used this stratagy by using the Multipication and Division with the Ratio table.

5.Find 3 other values (amounts of Snack Mix) that could be solved using the same ratio table. Find the $$ of your new container sizes.





1. 2/3 + 1/4 + 2/5 = 40/60 + 15/60 + 24/60 = 79/60 = 1 19/60





2. 6/5 - 11/10= 12/10 - 11/10 = 1/10





3. 3/5 + 2/7 = 21/35 + 10/35 = 31/35





4. 1/6 + 1/9 = 3/18 + 2/18 = 5/18

I'm figuring out how much miles 7/8 and 11/12 is first.


26Miles


7/8= 4/8=13 Miles


3/8=9 3/4 Miles


1/8=3 1/4 Miles


Add 4/8 and 3/8 together... 7/8=22 3/4 miles





11/12=6/11=13 Miles


5/11=10 5/5 Miles


1/11= 2 1/5 Miles


Add 6/11 and 5/11 together... 11/12=23 5/5

7/8=4/8+3/8=13Miles+9 3/4 Miles= 22 3/4 Miles


11/12=6/11+5/11=13miles+10 5/5 Miles= 23 5/5 Miles

In group 1 4 kids got 3 pieces of pizza each. In group 2 5 kids got 4 pieces each. In group 3 6 kids got 5 pieces each. In group 4 8 kids got 7 pizzas each.
Which group gets the largest portion of pizza?




Group 4 got the largest portion.
Show how you found your answer in 2 different ways.




I used a Ratio Table and Circles (Pizzas). Another way is I noticed... Group number 2 for example. 4 Pieces each. 5 kids 4 pizzas. Slices it 5 ways evenly (Look at the 5 kids). Then they got 4 each (Look at the 4 pizzas)

The group who got the largest portion of the pizza was the group 1, as you can see the illustration in my voicethread the group has the largest portion while the 4th group got the smallest portion because the many you are the smaller portion you could get. Since the 1st group had the fewest number of person the divisions of portions they would get are larger.


*What strategies did you use in finding your answer?

The strategies I used used were the fraction illustration and the ratio table.

The stratigies used were ratio table, multiplication and also divison.

2.
At first with the betty's snack mix problem I used a ratio table and times it by five which got me 12 cups and 18 dollars. Next Idiveded both by two. after that I divided the numbers I got by two again. later I divided the 1 cup and $1.50 by 3 and got one half cup and 75 cents.

I can use these stratigies staratigies to figure out the ingredients and the price of betty's snack mix

for this one I just did the stratigie in clock form and did the numbers of how many it would be in a clock and I added it all togther and got an hour and 7 minutes.

For this one I basically did the same thing except instead of adding it in the end I subtracted it and got 35 minutes.

this one I mostly did the same thing except there was 3 whole and one whole so those would be hours, and yet again I added it all up and got the answer of 5 hours and 14 minutes.
